An Explanation of Title I and What it Means for Tarrant Middle School:
There are many new and exciting things happening at Tarrant this school year! One of the most exciting things is our new status as a Title I school. Below is a brief overview of Title I and the support available to Title I families.
Title I: A definition:
Title I is a Federal aid program through which school districts receive funding to provide supplemental instruction for those students who qualify. Schools are found eligible for Title I aid based on the percentage of students who receive free and reduced lunch. However, Title I services are provided for all students who attend Tarrant Middle School and qualify as needing assistance in language arts or mathematics regardless of income.
There are twelve (12) Title I schools in Hampton. Tarrant along with 2 other middle schools in the city of Hampton receive Title I aid this 2016-17 school year. Because of our new Title I status, Davis will now have Title I Language Arts Interventionists, and a full-time Family Engagement Specialist. The Title I staff will not only provide academic resources, but also ensure the emotional, physical and social well being of Davis students.
Benefits of Title I:
Children are expected to achieve at a faster rate with the help and support of Title I instruction. Research indicates that about nine of every ten students participating in Title 1 programs make gains in their academic achievement.
